Scrap van collection in Cottingham for trades and households
A van that has done its last job still has value. If you want to scrap your van in Cottingham, enter the registration and postcode in our get a price form and the price shows on screen. Accept it, and we call you to book a free collection.
We buy small vans, medium and long-wheelbase panel vans, Lutons and pickups up to 3.5 tonnes, plus 4x4s. Any age, any make, running or not.

Where do scrap vans come from in Cottingham?
Cottingham is a village rather than an industrial area, so most vans we collect are parked outside homes:
- A tradesperson's old van replaced by a newer one.
- A van from a small business that has closed or wound down.
- A camper conversion project that never got finished.
- A pickup that has done years of hard work and failed its MOT.
- A 4x4 that has become too costly to keep on the road.
Vans parked on the A427 or on a sloping drive need care when loading, and we plan for that when we book.
Do I need to empty the van first?
Yes, please. Take out all tools, materials, racking contents and rubbish before we arrive. Check the cab, door pockets and under the seats too. We can only take the vehicle itself, and anything left inside goes with it to the Authorised Treatment Facility.
Fixed racking and ply lining can stay if you do not want them, but say so when you get your price.
How much is my scrap van worth?
Vans are generally heavier than cars, and weight is the main factor in any scrap price. On top of that we look at the current scrap metal price, make and model, whether the engine, gearbox, catalytic converter and wheels are still there, and whether you have the keys and V5C.
| What helps your van's price | What can lower it |
|---|---|
| Complete vehicle with engine and gearbox | Missing catalytic converter |
| Keys and V5C available | Major parts already removed |
| Larger, heavier van | Wheels taken off |
Your instant price holds as long as the van is complete and as described. If something is different, we explain before we load and you can say no. The scrap van cost guide explains more, and our guide on how scrap car prices work covers the per tonne side.
Collecting a heavy van that won't run
We collect with our own recovery trucks through our sister company, Rapid Recovery Corby, so a van that will not start is not a problem. We winch dead vans onto a beavertail transporter and use skates where wheels or brakes are seized. If you have more than one vehicle to clear, some trucks can carry one and tow another.
Business vans and ex-fleet
If the van belongs to a business, the registered keeper or someone authorised by the business should sell it. Have photo ID and proof of address ready, and the V5C. We pay by bank transfer, which gives the business a clean record for its accounts. Cash is not an option, because the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 makes cash payments for scrap illegal.
Remember to remove any tracker, fuel card, dashcam and parking permits, and cancel toll accounts linked to the registration.
Pickups and 4x4s
A tired pickup or 4x4 is scrapped the same way as a van. These vehicles are often heavy, which helps the price, and many have done years of towing or rough-ground work. If a 4x4 has had its tow bar, roof bars or spare wheel carrier removed, mention it when you get your price so the figure reflects what we collect. Leave any winch remote or recovery gear out of the vehicle if you want to keep it.
After collection
We take the van to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility. It issues a Certificate of Destruction and notifies the DVLA, and any full months of road tax are refunded. Cancel the insurance yourself. Our guide on how to scrap a car applies to vans in exactly the same way.
